History of the Club
The Friday Dance Club was one of the social activities at Manly Leagues Club (MLC) for several years. When the MLC came under new management in 2007, the dance venue was closed down. Edmund and Anna decided to continue to run the dance club at a new venue, the Forestville Memorial Hall. The first dance was on Friday, 4 January 2008. They enlisted the service of Gaille & Michael Bowe to teach new dances and retained Sid Hollings to play the music. The patronage was good.
In December 2013 Edmund and Anna decided to stop running the dance club. Subsequently a new management committee was formed to resurrect the Friday dancing. The new club was formally registered in January 2014 as the Manly-Warringah Dance Club Incorporated. The inaugural dance was on 3 January 2014.
The first Annual General Meeting was held on 30 January 2015. Both the Committee's Report and Financial Statements for 2014 were tabled and accepted unanimously. The old management committee was re-elected to serve in 2015.
The second Annual General Meeting was held on 22 January 2015. Both the Committee's Report and Financial Statements for 2015 were tabled and accepted unanimously. The old management committee was re-elected to serve in 2016. Sid Hollings has resigned from the new committee. We thank him for his advice and contribution. Forming of two sub-committees, one for teaching/revision and the other for assisting club operation, was also adopted at the meeting. The elected coordinators are Robert/Janet, George/Jane, Stanley/May and CK/Irene.
The 3rd Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 10 March 2017. Both the Committee Report and Financial Statements for 2016 were accepted. All the committee members were re-elected to serve in 2017. All the members of the sub-committee i.e. Robert/Janet, George/Jane, Stanley/May and CK/Irene were also reappointed in the first committee meeting on 1 April 2017.
From 14 April to 19 May 2017 our club's premise underwent maintenance work, resulting in a temporary relocation to the Forestville Youth Centre for our regular Friday dancing.
The 4th Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 27 April 2018. Both the Committee's Report and Financial Statements for 2017 were accepted. The committee was again re-elected to serve in 2018.
The 5th Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 3 May 2019. Both the Committee's Report and Financial Statements for 2018 were accepted. The committee members were re-elected to serve in 2019.
The Club has been successful in securing funding through the NSW Government's 2019 Community Building partnership Program in March 2020. We were allocated $15,000 to assist in the installation of air conditioning at the Forestville Memorial Hall. Northern Beaches Council funded the balance of the project cost and the installation was completed by December 2020.
Due to NSW Covid-19 safety restrictions, our club activity was suspended since 20/3/20. We resumed dancing on 15/1/21 with various Covid safety measures in place.
The 6th Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 16 April 2021. The Committee's Report for 2019/2020, Financial Statements for 2019 and Financial Statements for 2020 were accepted. The newly elected Adviser is George Chen and the Treasurer is Jane Chen.
